Columbus, Ohio As we pulled up to the Unitarian Universalist Church, we were met outside by supporters including members of Jennifer's family: Doug, Julie, Carol, Kathy, Anna, Nicole, and Maxwell. What should have been a leisurely rally and lunch turned into more of a mad dash, unfortunately because the time change was not accounted for and we started our day already one hour late. We were quickly interviewed by the local news station, Channel 4, as our comrades were trying to down their lunches so that we could make our next event relatively on time. The highlight of the day was when Jennifer's family escorted the caravan bus out of Columbus. Their actions spoke louder than words. Akron, Ohio More family reunions occurred as members of our caravan (Bev, Jacqueline, and Jan) were met by sisters, nieces and nephews. It was truly going to be an emotional family reunion day. Words cannot express how much joy is felt when family shows up in solidarity and support for our cause. Pittsburg, PA We ended our day with a panel discussion with LGBT students from the University of Pittsburg. It was told to us that many of the students who struggle with their orientation are not out in the community. Therefore, pictures and video of the audience were not permitted unless permission was granted. Jeanne and Jennifer were one of panelists and during a poignant moment when Jeanne spoke about coming out to the family, she noticed many students wiping tears from their eyes. It was just one of many touching moments in our journey. Jeanne and Jennifer NOTE: There will not be an entry for our final day which is tomorrow, "National Coming Out Day". We are here in Washington, DC and our rally will be televised LIVE on C-SPAN 2, from 8am to 1pm pacific time and 11M TO 4PM eastern time. |
