St. Louis, MO We received a warm but wet welcome in St. Louis, MO. A rally that was staged in the park had to be moved nearby to an outdoor pavilion so that we would be sheltered from the rainstorm. Nevertheless, nearly 150 supporters huddled to hear our stories. We encountered our first gay Asian here in St. Louis, who told us that most gay Asians stick to themselves and are mostly closeted; therefore, it was difficult to reach out to them. In addition, there is not a large population in the first place. After sharing a home cooked potluck lunch with the enthusiastic crowd, we literally had to eat and run off to our next event in Indianapolis. Indianapolis, Indiana In the evening, we had a town hall meeting with supporters which included members of their own queer and transgender community. Throughout our journey through the Midwest, we have been joined by some of the most gracious, genuine, and caring individuals. It is true what they say about their hospitality in the Midwest. Our documentary filmmaker also showed his film, "I Will, I Do, We Did" which chronicled couples who were married in San Francisco. This day, like all of the other days had been a long one, starting at 6:00am and ending around 11pm. It is now time to sleep… Jeanne and Jennifer |
